Dr. Edward W. Romero has over 18 years of experience in academia and business, dealing primarily in higher education in areas related to diversity, administration, agriculture, agricultural literacy, agricultural careers, student recruitment and outreach, retention, and student development, in addition, to his former experience in the financial services industry, specifically in insurance and investments.
Dr. Romero is currently the Chief Diversity Officer at Texas A&M University-Commerce where he is responsible for the development of designing, coordinating, implementing, and enhancing all diversity and inclusion efforts of the University and works collaboratively with the senior management team, colleges, departments, offices, groups, and individuals, including students, across the University. The primary role of this position is to infuse and embed diversity and inclusion concepts and practices into all aspects of Texas A&M University-Commerce.
Outside of his university obligations, Dr. Romero is also co-founder and organizer of the Latinos in Agriculture Leaders Conference, an annual national event since 2011 to discuss the transformation of the Hispanic Agricultural workforce of the future by bringing together government, industry, higher education, and future student leaders.
Originally from Santa Rosa, New Mexico, Dr. Romero holds a B.S. in Agricultural Business and Agricultural Economics with an emphasis in Finance and an M.A. in Agricultural and Extension Education from New Mexico State University. He also holds a Ph.D. in Agricultural Education with a Leadership emphasis from Texas A&M University in College Station.
