Houston City Council Member Amanda K. Edwards serves as the City Council Member in At-Large Position 4. Council Member Edwards is also an attorney who specializes in public finance matters, in which she solves complex issues relating to tax-exempt bond financings, public-private partnerships, community development projects and non-profit organizations.
Council Member Edwards obtained her Bachelor of Arts from Emory University and her Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School. Before returning to Houston to enter private practice and public service, she served as a judicial law clerk to The Honorable Ivan L. R. Lemelle of the Federal District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
Council Member Edwards remains active in the broader community. She has served on several non-profit boards of directors, and she is the immediate past Chair of the Board of Project Row Houses. Because of her legal work and her lifelong passion for improving communities, Council Member Edwards has been recognized in a litany of publications and has received numerous awards. However, Council Member Edwards is most deeply rewarded by positively impacting others and empowering communities.
Currently, Council Member Edwards serves as the Vice Chair of the Budget and Fiscal Affairs Committee and on the Economic Development and Transportation, Technology and Infrastructure Committees. While on Council, Council Member Edwards is working to address the city’s fiscal issues and to comprehensively and innovatively address our urban core needs so that Houston can be the place where the Gulf Coast and the world's future meet.
